Sponsor for Vennela

We are looking for a sponsor for Vennela, who has completed a Bachelor’s of Science degree and has been accepted into a Bachelor’s of Education program. After completing her B.Ed., Vennela plans to teach high school level chemistry.

Vennela is the oldest of six daughters. She is single-handedly managing her two youngest sisters’ studies, while also attempting to get her family to allow their fourth daughter to return to 8th grade instead of continuing migration work.

I am awed by what Vennela has accomplished with little family support. Her family belongs in to ST (Scheduled Tribes), one of the most disadvantaged castes in India. Her father suffers from alcoholism, as do so many men in the village. The family works migration work as day laborers.

When I asked Vennela what she wants to do after finishing her B.Ed., she has one wish; to earn money to help her younger sisters complete their education.

Like her sisters, Vennela was a summer camp kid, and has definitely made us proud. Few local students are able to complete degrees in the Sciences due to poor preparation from the government school, and it is very impressive that she tested high enough for admission and went on to pass her exams and graduate.

Vennela’s two year B.Ed. program cost is $500/year, so will be a $1000 commitment for a sponsor and can be paid monthly or annually.

Please let us know if you are interested in sponsorship.
